Man of Steel is just two weeks away, and a lot of people are going to pay a lot of attention to how it performs as Warner’s hopes and dreams of a Justice League movie hinges on how Superman does at the box office. Zack Snyder’s reboot will be to DC what the first Iron Man was to Marvel; the movie that will kick off and help established a shared cinematic universe. Here are five things DC needs to do in order to make sure Justice League kicks as much ass as possible:
Do Not Reboot the Batman Origin!
This is the big one. Don’t redo the Batman origin, again. People just saw the origin in Batman Begins, which wasn’t even ten years ago. No, people know how Bruce Wayne became Batman. If someone doesn’t know his origin and they go see the movie, they have bigger problems than not knowing who Batman is. Instead, DC should just pick up with Batman who has been operating in Gotham for years.
How sad is it that Rocket Raccoon will have a big screen appearance before Wonder Woman? While Warner was working with Joss Whedon on a Wonder Woman film a few years ago, that fell apart and lead into a failed NBC pilot. With Whedon so busy with Marvel these days, they’ll obviously need to find someone else to bring the Amazon to the big screen. People have been throwing around Gina Carano’s name to hold the lasso, and I think that would be a pretty good fit…
I would even put The Flash as a higher priority than Wonder Woman as Barry Allen is in definite need of a screen presence. The short CBS series from the late 80s was actually really good, and they didn’t mess with the suit much, but with today’s technology the Scarlet Speedster could really be done justice on the big screen.
No Green Lantern Reboot Either
This is doubtful to happen as the SciFi-heavy Green Lantern established in the first movie won’t fit well with the universe they’re establishing in Man of Steel, where Kal-El is the first alien humanity met. People would definitely remember Parallax destroying a city. Yet, despite the haters, the Ryan Reynolds Green Lantern got the origin just about perfect. The movie’s problem was it was set on Earth, when it should’ve been set entirely in space…
Establish the Characters Before Justice League
This is just as important as not redoing the Batman origin. The reason why The Avengers made billions at the box office was thanks to multiple movies with those characters leading up to the ensamble meeting. If Warner tries to do it the reverse way (Justice League first, then solo movies), it may not work as well. No, they need to give the characters their own movies (except maybe Batman) before putting them together on the big screen. I know Warner is desperate for their own Avengers, but if they’re patient and do it right; they’ll make more money than they would if they rushed into it.
