Last week a rumor was started by Deadline that Marvel was so cheap that they didn’t want to pay the cast of Avengers to return, so they could recast key characters. Ruffalo smashed part of the rumor last week, but now another rumor has popped up saying that at least one of the team could be sitting out Phase 2 completely and possibly moving to the small screen.
Comic Book Movie is claiming that Marvel may not be too happy with Jeremy Renner complaining about how Hawkeye was used in the first Avengers, and they could be looking to recast him:
Looks like there is a trend where when an actor talks negatively about their Marvel role, after the movie is released, Marvel Studios moves on without that actor. Weaving will not be in future Marvel movies, despite the multi-film deal he signed with them. Now, per The Daily SuperHero’s Hollywood source Renner is done as Hawkeye mainly due to his negative comments after The Avengers.
The source hints that there’s the tiniest chance Renner will reprise his role in The Avengers Sequel but the source also said there is a greater chance Hawkeye will be recast (like War Machine and the Hulk have been recast before). Finally, the source said if Hawkeye is to be recast there is a solid chance he could be incorporated into the new television show Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as a primary character.
As Hawkeye isn’t one of the “big 3″ in The Avengers (Iron Man, Cap, Thor), having him sit out the next movie isn’t a huge deal; especially with Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch coming in. Also, with the possibility of the Guardians of the Galaxy showing up; Hawkeye would be reduced to a background character again.
