Those who watched the excellent third and fourth seasons of Star Trek: Enterprise were really let down by the horrible series finale. Following the excellent “Terra Prime”, which showed the very beginnings of the Federation, Berman and Braga took over for the series finale and took a big dump on the franchise with “These Are The Voyages”.
The story flashed forward to the tenth year of the Enterprise’s mission, which was told via a holodeck recording being viewed by Riker on the Enterprise-D during the “Pegasus” episode in Season 6. Trip was killed, and the entire series was given a back seat to TNG. It was an insulting way to end the series, which started to become very good in its third season.
Season Two of Enterprise hit Blu-Ray, and Herc at AICN went through the special features and found this bit about the final episode:
Scott Bakula made an apparently unusually angry phone call to Braga over the Riker-centric “Enterprise” series finale Braga penned. (Braga now claims adding the TNG homage to the finale was his biggest regret regarding “Enterprise.”)
Regretting the finale is enough of an apology that I’d accept. Doubt we’ll ever hear that from Berman…
