How do you ruin the potential for a new “2001″ based on Kyp Thorne’s wormhole theories? By saddling it with “social commentary” about “climate change”.
That’s exactly what it sounds like Nolan is doing with the story of Interstellar. According to JoBlo the whole reason the characters go into space in the first place is to find another planet where they can grow something other than corn:
Set in the future, the movie details the toll climate change has taken on agriculture, with corn the last crop to be cultivated. The scientists embark on a journey through a worm hole into other dimensions in search of somewhere other crops can be grown.
What’s wrong with exploring space for the sheer purpose of exploration? Only in Hollywood does there need to be social commentary to preach to people.
This has made my anticipation for the movie to crater.
