A lot of people were mad when Disney shut down Lucasarts and converted it over to a licensing-only model. Despite Lucasarts operating nearly that way for the last few years anyways, those fans who are pissed off over Disney buying Lucasfilm blew that announcement way out of proportion and used it as yet another reason to bitch and moan.
But now we know the real reason why Lucasarts is just licensing Star Wars to EA, as according to the Wall Street Journal, all of Disney Interactive’s resources have been focusing on Disney Infinity:
As it pours resources into “Infinity,” Disney Interactive has pulled back in other areas. It halted production on an “Iron Man” game scheduled for release this year, for instance, and passed on the opportunity to produce “Star Wars” games following its parent company’s purchase of Lucasfilm.
Thankfully, Disney Infinity is an awesome game and as it covers all of Disney (The Muppets and ESPN even appear in it now), there’s the possibility of Star Wars and Marvel showing up in the game in the future. If they start producing Star Wars figures you can use in the Toy Box mode to make your own Star Wars world; I’m making my own Star Wars Galaxies!
