It seems like every week brings a new Episode VII casting rumor that takes the internet by storm, whether or not it was true. Two weeks ago it was the Benedict Cumberbatch rumor, and this last week was Saoirse Ronan. What will the big rumor this week be?
According to a Tweet from Latino Review’s El Mayimbe, Daniel Day Lewis was apparently seen having lunch with Kathleen Kennedy and George Lucas last Thursday. Apparently that’s enough to spark a rumor that he’s being cast in Star Wars Episode VII.
Obviously it had nothing to do with his last movie being produced by Kennedy. Obviously it couldn’t possibly have been because Lewis has said in the past that he was a Star Wars fan. And obviously this couldn’t have been just a friendly lunch. In the world of making up Episode VII bullshit to get hits to your website, every lunch is a casting meeting!
The Jedi Council Forums have been all over this, mocking the hilarity of making a big deal out of a friendly lunch as well as pointing out the absurdity of a three-time Oscar winning method actor who does not want to make back-to-back movies signing on to a big budget summer tentpole.
Also, Meghan O’Keefe dropped this bit of ether:
Okay. It’s time to unleash insider knowledge.
The Latino Review is so despised amongst high ranking producers that they let their minions unleash batshit crazy rumors to the Latino Review for kicks. Oh, and I have it on good authority that one big nerd studio hates this site so much that should a big story actually leak to them, the studio head purposely kills whatever the casting call or plot leak was and has his team go for Plan B. To FUCK with Latino Review.
They can be on sometimes, but only if the film studio doesn’t change their mind or or if the film studio isn’t fucking with them.
Now, they can be right. So, this could be true. But much like a tarot reading, it could change tomorrow.
So…just know that when you read or reblog Latino Review? Like they do have spies…but their spies are up against more than the usual ones. I’m totally going to read their scoop…but with THE BIGGEST GRAIN OF SALT. As should you.
Either way, prepare for a lot of websites to start spreading this, which is likely another false casting rumor…
