On Saturday when this came out I was talking to our friends over at MakingStarWars.net about it, and while the Cad Bane series is likely not true at all…Star Wars is definitely headed to Netflix in some way.
Back when Marvel announced their Netflix series, there was this bit included in the press release:
This new original TV deal follows last year’s landmark movie distribution deal through which, beginning with 2016 theatrically released feature films, Netflix will be the exclusive U.S. subscription television service for first-run, live-action and animated movies from the Walt Disney Studios, including titles from Disney, Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar Animation Studios, Marvel Studios, Disneynature and Lucasfilm. Netflix members can currently enjoy a wide range of Disney, ABC TV and Disney Channel films and shows across the 41 countries where Netflix operates.
What that sounds like is anything Disney releases from 2016 on will appear on Netflix before it hits HBO and regular cable. That includes Lucasfilm, so we will see stuff like Rebels and the post-Episode VII Star Wars movies on there. But a Cad Bane series? That’s a bit too-fanboyish to believe right now especially when Lucasfilm wants to focus on the Original Trilogy era as opposed to the Prequels…
