While everyone is heavily focused on the on-going production of Star Wars Episode VII, it seems like Lucasfilm is wasting no time getting things ready for Episode VIII.
Rian Johnson has been in San Francisco doing early work on Episode VIII, and Skyped into a taping of Filmspotting that the Sun Times described, which our buddies at MakingStarWars.Net found via JediNews. Via the Skype video, Johnson described what it was like to get the job making the next Star Wars Episode:
“The thought of it made me so completely joyfully happy.
“I wanted to to play in this world, of literally the first movie my dad put me in the car to see,” he said.
As for how he scored the gig, Johnson laughed, “I can only assume it was a clerical error, like in the movie ‘Brazil.’ There’s a Brian Johnson out there who is really mad.”
He even mentioned the Prequels, which the crowd apparently didn’t like:
“There was something really beautiful about the prequels,” he said, as film snob crowd was momentarily stunned, having just booed at the mention of the “Star Wars” prequels.
If you’re a Star Wars fan who isn’t sold on Johnson making Episode VIII by this point, I’m not quite sure what else he could do to convince you.
