Star Wars and The Flash fans remember the great 90s series based on the comic partially due to how Mark Hamill played The Trickster in it. The series, which again was pretty great, was the victim of bad scheduling and died quickly on CBS, but the makers of the excellent new CW series haven’t forgotten of it at all. They’ve already cast the original Flash as Barry’s father in the series, and now Mark Hamill will return as the original Trickster.
HitFix has learned how Hamill will return in the new series:
“Mark Hamill returns in a brand new interpretation of James Jesse (aka The Trickster), a role he originated on the 90’s ‘Flash’ series. In this new iteration, The Trickster is an anarchist terrorist con man serving a life sentence in Iron Heights who helps Barry (Grant Gustin) and Det. West (Jesse L. Martin) to foil the city-wide attacks of a wannabe Trickster eagerly following in the original’s deadly footsteps. The episode will reunite him with John Wesley Shipp who went up against him as the original ‘Flash’ on the CBS version.”
If you’ve never seen the original 90s series, you can pick up the entire thing pretty cheap on DVD. In addition to a great Flash costume and villains, it had a Danny Elfman theme and comic production values that were honestly ahead of their time on network television.
