Could the Han Solo movie be changing release dates from its currently scheduled May 25, 2018 date to Christmas?
That’s what a new rumor MakingStarWars has heard says:
“Interestingly, over the holiday, our sources in the theater industry have received a release date of December 13th, 2018 for Star Wars: Han Solo. We are not saying the release date has changed but it could signify that a release date shift for Star Wars: Han Solo is in the works. The paperwork states the release date is subject to change for Han Solo. It was strange to hear that from disparate sources in the theater industry, but at the same time there’s a variety of factors that could have caused a mistake to occur (see products that assume Rey’s last name is Skywalker). Some dates on some paperwork sent to corporate does not conclusively mean the release date for the untitled Star Wars: Han Solo stand-alone has changed. Often where there’s smoke there’s fire so we’re sharing the information in case the story does develop.”
This would put Han Solo very close to the release of Avatar 2 (December 21st) and close to Disney’s own Merry Poppins Returns (Christmas Day). Also as December 13th is a Thursday in the US, this is possibly an international date and that would mean the US release date would likely be on the 14th.
Disney recently spent more than $400 million to build Pandora at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Florida, and the land will open this coming summer. It’s interesting that they would want Star Wars competing against Avatar in December 2018 after that huge investment in the Florida’s parks. It’s always possible that Avatar will move again, but Disney seriously needs a new Avatar film from Fox to get people excited over their big expansion in Florida.
Right now this is just a rumor, but don’t be surprised if this happens…
