For nearly a year there have been very reliable reports that not only would Yoda appear in The Last Jedi in some way, and Frank Oz would be involved. The reports originated last April via MakingStarWars who learned that Oz was flying over to London to work on the movie. There were also whispers that one of the sets that was built was made to accommodate a puppet.
This weekend Frank Oz did an interview about the legacy of Jim Henson with Variety and they asked him about the Yoda reports:
“There are reports that you might reprise Yoda in the new “Star Wars.”
I feel like I’m a prisoner at war here, and I can only give you my name, rank and serial number. To be true to the people who asked me, and they are kind of my family, I have to say I’ve been asked not to talk about it. I love Yoda. I would be happy to talk to you about it at the time they let me.”
That’s a pretty strong non-denial right there and his wording pretty much confirms that he (and Yoda) are in it but he’s not allowed to talk about it yet. It’ll be interesting to see how many people fail to credit MakingStarWars for being right yet again with a big Episode VIII scoop.
