Yesterday at the Paradox Interactive Convention in New York, the company announced they were working on a tower defense game, Defenders of Ardania.
The name is derived from the mythical land of the same name within the Majesty games, the first of which was released back in 2000. If you haven’t tried it, Majesty is worth a look. It’s an RTS with the twist that you can’t directly control your units. I would have tried the second game they developed, but I noticed the voice acting was all taken from the predecessor and figured “Well they’ve probably just taken a lot of the original game and given it shiny graphics, so why bother?”
But back to the game at hand! The player takes on the role as one of three available races. Each race has it’s own unique array of units and buildings, and there is also a wide range of spells to use.
Paradox claims the focus of the game is the multiplayer aspect. There are three game modes, where the player can assume a defense or offensive role, or both at once.
•An intriguing new take on the massively popular tower defense genre: players lead both offensive and defensive operations
•Ardania: the world of Majesty with three playable races and their unique environments
•Defense: 24 different upgradeable towers to erect against the invading enemy
•Attack: 24 varied units with diverse attributes to assemble into an offensive force
•Strong multiplayer component with a variety of game modes for up to four players
•Interactive environment that affects gameplay
•A wide range of offensive and defensive spells
