For the past few months we’ve been hearing how Star Trek II will likely not make its Summer 2012 release, and now it’s absolutely official. Deadline is reporting the G.I. Joe 2 will take Star Trek’s old release date of July 29, 2012.
This comes after the news that they will start filming the sequel in January. Deadline also says that J.J. Abrams will most likely return to direct it, and that Paramount is looking at either a Christmas 2012 or summer 2013 release. Star Trek 2009 was the first Trek movie to venture out of the traditional Holiday/Christmas release window for the series, so in a way it would be going back to tradition if they got it out for Holiday 2012.
