Based on the classic FASA tabletop game, MechWarrior 2 was one of the greatest PC games of the 90s. After more than a decade of waiting, the franchise is finally returning to the PC in the form of a free-to-play MMO titled MechWarrior Online. There have been rumors for the last couple months that some kind of new MechWarrior game would be announced, and this is it. We also don’t have long to wait for it, as it’s due at the end of 2012.
Not much is known about how the game will play yet, but the developer has launched the official site for it along with a FAQ. We do know that it’ll be first person, as it should, and not third-person like Microsoft’s Xbox games set in the universe. You won’t be able to get out of your mech, and as of right now the confirmed mechs are Atlas, Hunchback, and Jenner. You’ll naturally be able to customize your mech, and level up your pilot.
You can head on over to the official site to reserve your pilot name. This is one free to play MMO that we’re definitely going to keep an eye on.
