If you were hoping that Ridley Scott would be making Prometheus 2 as his next film, we have some bad news for you. The science fiction sequel won’t be what Scott is making next, but he won’t be leaving the genre entirely.
The Playlist is reporting that Ridley Scott will direct Matt Damon in an adaptation of Andy Weir’s recent sci-fi hit The Martian. The book tells the story of a member of a manned mission to Mars who is accidentally left behind when his suit is damaged and his bio-med sensors make it look like he’s dead to the rest of the crew. Alone on Mars, he attempts to survive on grown potatoes and water from burned hydrogen while establishing contact with NASA as the rest of his crew is flying home.
Obviously with the success of Gravity Fox sees this as an attempt to cash-in on that theme, so it’s not known how much they’ll deviate from the novel. The book is a very “hard sci-fi” type read, which is one of its strengths, but this is the sort of thing that can quite easily fall into a cookie-cutter Gravity rip-off thriller.
