When the world lost Robin Williams on Monday, a lot of people remembered how much he loved everything we did. Aside from being a big anime fan (especially Cowboy Bebop), he was a huge gamer. Everyone knows how he named his daughter Zelda, but he also played Warhammer 40k and was a really big World of Warcraft player.
Blizzard is known for memorializing people with NPCs in the MMO, and as Robin Williams expressed his love for the game in interviews a petition was hatched to have the company remember him in the game:
It was reported that Robin used to play on the Mannoroth server, and was something of a troll in trade on good days or when anonymity allowed. Mr.. Williams said in interviews that he took his World of Warcraft characters very serious – in fact he was well known for being an extreme PC builder who prefered to build his own overclocked and super-cooled systems. He often joked about his WoW addiction but also about the reactions he’d get from other gamers when he admits he plays the game.
The petition was sent to Blizzard, and after one of the devs said “We’re taking care of it”, the official Twitter account confirmed that they will be placing a NPC for him in the game:
.@robinwilliams Thank you. You gave us so much joy in our lives, and we hope you enjoyed your time in our world. We’ll see you in-game.
