With thirty years separating Return of the Jedi and Star Wars Episode VII, fans are filled with questions about what happened to the characters and galaxy after the events of the Battle of Endor. Obviously Lucasfilm will be filling in the thirty-year gap with novels, comic books, and maybe even video games, but a new rumor has popped up that says the company has already done some concept art for the immediate aftermath of the sixth Star Wars film.
MakingStarWars.net has some new rumors about some artwork Lucasfilm has done for Episode VII related things, and the coolest one is this that describes what happened immediately following the Battle of Endor:
Endor – Again, very early on, there were several sketches titled ‘after party’ which was a bit of an in-joke. These showed a second battle of Endor. The story being that after the rebels left Endor, Imperial forces and these new villains attacked. They killed many Ewoks and more importantly left with the remains of Darth Vader. Now, where I was working at the time, there was a lot going on and some of it wasn’t necessarily related to Episode VII but other Star Wars projects that will fill in the gaps between Episode VI and VII . I don’t think these scenes will appear in the movie but rather something set between movies.
This is very interesting as it seemingly confirms a Vader connection with the Episode VII villains, specifically that they were possibly trained (and working) for Vader and at least one of them is obsessed with his image. It’s also a very cool kick-off for the expanded universe after Episode VI, as once the Rebels think they won here comes this new group of villains connected to the Empire that they never suspected were out there.
