There have been some rumors flying around that Idris Elba would be cast as Apocalypse in the next X-Men movie, and now those appear to have been false. It’s now been revealed that one of the new Star Wars cast members will be playing the first mutant in the upcoming love story between Magneto and Mystique.
The Wrap has confirmed that Oscar Isaac will be the ancient mutant:
Oscar Isaac has closed a deal to play the villain in “X-Men: Apocalypse,†an individual familiar with the project has told TheWrap.
Isaac has been the frontrunner to play Apocalypse for the past two weeks, though Idris Elba and Pedro Pascal were also under consideration.
Apocalypse’s real name is En Sabah Nur, which translates to “the first one,†alluding to the fact that he is considered the first human born with the mutant-X gene.
As of right now it’s not known what direction they’ll be going with Apocalypse in the movie. The post-credits scene of Days of Future Past gave us a peek at him, but it’s doubtful that’s the design they’re going to use for him in the 80’s setting.
