Hot off he heels of Sony bowing to terrorist demands and Kim Jong Un becoming the CEO of Sony Pictures, the studio has revealed that they’re going to release the live action remake of Fire and Ice.
This is something that Rodriguez has talked about for a while, and Deadline confirmed today that Sony has picked up the movie in the hopes of turning it into a franchise. Obviously it’ll be filmed with extensive green screens like with the Sin City movies, which means you can probably expect it to look a lot like the 300 films…although with a Franzetta flourish.
The original Fire and Ice was animated in the 80s by Ralph Bakshi and is something of a cult classic. These days the Franzetta visuals can be translated pretty faithfully using CG and green screen, so this is one that I’m not totally against seeing realized.
