Remember yesterday when Warner Brothers decided you shouldn’t be able to see the General Lee anymore? Well today Apple has taken things a step further by trying to erase the Civil War from history. The company has removed all Civil War games from their App Store.
According to TouchArcade, Apple has removed historical Civil War strategy games “…because it includes images of the confederate flag used in offensive and mean-spirited ways.”:
“As of the writing of this story, games like Ultimate General: Gettysburg and all the Hunted Cow Civil War games are nowhere to be found. Apple is famous for reaching for the axe rather than the scalpel when it comes to political issues (like rejecting Hunted Cow’s Tank Battle 1942 for depicting Germans and Russians as enemies), so this move doesn’t come as a great surprise.”
Ultimate General: Gettysburg is actually a great Civil War RTS, and the game is still available on Steam if you want to check it out. If you’re into historical strategy games, it’s a good one and is under $20.
Much like the General Lee fiasco yesterday, most people seem to be against Apple with this knee-jerk reaction. Hopefully they’ll reverse their decision soon and allow the games back on the App Store.
