UPDATE! Lucasfilm has made it official!
The screenplay is written by Lawrence Kasdan and Jon Kasdan. The story focuses on how young Han Solo became the smuggler, thief, and scoundrel whom Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi first encountered in the cantina at Mos Eisley.
Star Wars Anthology: Han Solo will release on May 25th, 2018!
We now know what the third Star Wars Anthology movie is, and it’ll be a Han Solo film directed by the guys who did The Lego Movie.
Not to be confused with the Anthology movie Josh Trank was going to make (which is still apparently Boba Fett), THR reports that Christopher Miller and Phil Lord are making a Young Han Solo Star Wars movie:
“Miller and his partner Phil Lord, the duo behind The Lego Movie and the hit 21 Jump Street movies, are tackling one of Star Wars anthology movies as their next directing project, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.
The filmmaker team, who write, direct and produce, are stepping up to helm a movie that will focus on a young Han Solo, according to sources.
The new project is not the same as the one that was to have been directed by Josh Trank. Trank parted ways with the project in May amid a cloud of issues stemming from his Fantastic Four shoot. The project, rumored to be an origin story of the intergalactic bounty hunter Boba Fett, is still searching for a director.”
This gives us three Anthology movies, which was always rumored. Rogue One arrives in December 2016, and the second Anthology has always been rumored for 2018. With the search for a director for the Boba Fett movie ongoing it could be possible that we see Young Han Solo in the 2018 release date and Boba Fett then takes 2020.
