Both Disneyland and Walt Disney World will see construction begin on Star Wars Land sometime in 2016.
While rumors were flying around of a 2017 start, at least in Disneyland, THR has a report from Disney’s Tom Staggs that says when construction will begin:
“He announced that construction of new lands based on Star Wars would start next year in both California and Florida, but still would not say when the attractions might actually open to the public.”
Looking at past Disney projects of a similar scale you can project a possible opening date. Depending on when construction begins next year, we’re looking at a 2018 or more likely 2019 opening for Star Wars Land…which would coincide with the release of Episode IX. The 12-acre Cars Land at Disney California Adventure took roughly two-and-half years from construction to opening, and Star Wars Land will be even larger than that.
