Announced at PSX (PlayStation Experience) last December, Double Fine has released the first screenshots for Day of the Tentacle Remastered. Day of the Tentacle was the sequel to 1987’s Maniac Mansion, one of the first LucasArts adventure games, by Ron Gilbert and Gary Winnick. Ron and Gary helped out with the writing on DotT but it was Tim Schafer and Dave Grossman who were the game directors. Tim Schafer’s new studio Double Fine are the ones developing this remaster. Finally after months of silence (it takes a long time to make a video game after all) we have our first look at the game.
You may notice the last two images are the same screen but one is more pixely. That is because Day of the Tentacle Remastered includes the option to switch between old graphics and new at the press of a button. Other special features includes the option to switch audio tracks between remastered audio and the old sound you would get back in 1993 from old sound cards like the Sound Blaster as well as developer’s commentary from some of the people who worked on the original game like Tim Schafer, Dave Grossman, Peter Chan and Peter McConnell. Also included is the full Maniac Mansion game, same as all previous releases of Day of the Tentacle.
No release date has been announced yet, but it will be coming soon to PC, PS4, PlayStation Vita, and Mac platforms.
