We have Star Wars Day, Back to the Future Day, and now Fox is trying to create Alien Day on April 26th. What does that date have to do with Aliens? Nothing really, except the colony in the movie was on LV-426 so Fox is taking that day to try to create a fan frenzy around the franchise. And for the first one they’re going to be releasing Ripley’s Reeboks from the movie.
THR reports they’ll be available online and in some Reebok stores:
“Reebok is releasing an exact replica of the Alien high-top Stompers worn by Weaver as Ellen Ripley. Also being released is the mid-top version worn by Lance Henriksen as the android Bishop. The movie sneakers will be available beginning April 26 at Reebok.com and select Reebok stores worldwide.
The Stompers hold a unique place in the movies. The shoes were made by the company specifically for the James Cameron film and became, along with Back to the Future’s Nike Air Mag, some of cinema’s most famous footwear.
Reebok released a version of the shoe a year after the movie opened, but only for a limited time. The shoes have enjoyed a revival in recent years, with cosplayers making their own versions and certain shops creating custom versions.
Most iterations were not the high-top model but the mid-top, making the new shoes faithful to what was seen onscreen.”
Unlike the $1500 Nike Air Mags, it’s doubtful these will go for that much. But if you’re a hardcore Aliens fan you can grab a pair on Alien Day April 26th. Perhaps next year’s Alien Day will deliver a trailer for the new movie?
