Last week James Cameron announced four Avatar sequels. Instead of being excited about four movies following a movie most people already forgot, the internet joked how they’d never come out with Star Wars owning the December release date now.
In an interview with Famous Monsters, James Cameron revealed that he doesn’t want to go up against Star Wars:
“My original plan was to release them a year apart, but we’re opening that up. If for no other reason than that I don’t want to land on the same date as one of the STAR WARS sequels. That wouldn’t be fair to them. [Laughs] No, that’s just good business. I don’t want to go head-to-head with STAR WARS. That would be stupid. And hopefully they won’t want to go head-to-head with us.â€
That of course begs the question as to when the Avatar movies will be released. Would they try to do them in the summer instead of the Christmas release that Cameron previously dominated with Titanic and the first Avatar?
