With Lucasfilm producing a new Star Wars movie every year until the end of time, everyone wants to quickly cash-in on the franchise with some quick and stupid Star Wars stories. As a service to our readers we’ll be running down each week’s bit of Star Wars clickbait on the internet to try to debunk this week’s Star Wars stupidity.
Reddit Fan Fiction isn’t an Episode VIII Scoop (Again)
This week marked the second time when big film blogs decided that a Reddit sub with a reputation for making up wild fan fiction just to (try to) disprove MakingStarWars is a legitimate place for Star Wars scoops.
A couple of weeks ago a blogger went to the Star Wars Leaks subreddit and saw a hilarious bit of fan fiction titled “Echoes of the Dark Side” where they said Rey is the reincarnation of Anakin and Luke actually tells her “No, you’re my father”. Most of the people on that sub mocked that script “leak” when it went up, but that didn’t stop thirsty sites from turning it into clickbait.
This week some of the same sites decided to mine the Star Wars Leaks subreddit for scoops again, and believed a story made up by a poster about Kylo Ren attacking Luke on Ahch-to and blowing up one of the huts on the island. Just like with the “Echoes of the Dark Side” bogus fan fiction, there’s no reason to believe that bit of speculation.
That subreddit was created last year when a small group of fans refused to believe the story details coming out about The Force Awakens from MakingStarWars.net. There was a faction of fans who refused to accept that Han Solo died and that Luke would only have one non-speaking appearance in the movie.
So growing out of that anger, that subreddit was formed and was the home to all sorts of stupidity such as people claiming to have seen the movie where Luke shows up for the entire third act and fights Kylo Ren complete with Kylo charging him and yelling “Have you no honor!”. One of the most infamous bits posted there was from another poster who claimed to see the movie and Luke embraces Rey at the end while saying “My baby girl”. There was even one poster who vanished after claiming the San Diego Comic Con trailer would disprove all of the MSW information and that Jason Ward would be “f’ed”.
“OMG! Is that a Rogue One Poster?!”
The teaser trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is currently playing in theaters with Captain America: Civil War, and as such the teaser poster has started to appear in theater lobbies. An instagram user took a picture of the poster, and that caused some clueless sites to freak out and post the picture as if it’s the first time anyone had seen the poster. Except it’s not new at all. Lucasfilm released an image of the teaser poster back in April when they released the first Rogue One teaser online.
They Don’t Stamp “CONFIDENTIAL” On Star Wars Scripts
There’s an instragram post claiming to show a leaked Episode VIII script. If you think this is real, you have issues. Aside from the giant “Confidential” stamped on the scripts, there’s a lot to point out it’s fake. Like the fact that it’s printed on white paper, for one. This hasn’t been picked up by many sites yet, but if it does now you know it’s fake.
