Even though they cancelled Agent Carter and passed on Most Wanted, ABC has committed to a fourth season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D….but it has a new time slot.
The Marvel series that aired at 8:00pm for its first season before moving later to 9:00pm for its second season is moving again when it returns in the fall for season four. It’ll remain on Tuesday nights, but it’ll now air at 10:00pm. That’s actually pretty late for a Marvel series, especially one that families may watch together and would have a younger-skewing audience than the traditional dramas that ABC would air at 10pm.
Really with the recent cancellations of other Marvel shows and the fact that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. doesn’t really light ratings on fire this could be a way for ABC to stealthily kill their last remaining Marvel series. It’s not unheard of for a network to move a show into a “death slot” to kill it off, and it’s frightening to think that this could be happening with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D..
The show’s been absolutely fantastic and really has become its own thing in the third season, but with the death of Agent Carter and ABC passing on Most Wanted, they could be starting to feel that Marvel isn’t really needed on television anymore. Especially with the excellent Netflix series working out so well…
