DC fans remember when Zack Snyder cast Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman and the rage that earned from certain corners of the internet. With Wonder Woman releasing this week, and the critic reaction it’s receiving, those critics are being shut up in a pretty awesome way.
One of the biggest early critics was a YouTube host who began railing on Gal Gadot’s casting immediately. In fact, this person has spent the last few years railing against not only Gadot, but Warner for casting her and basically was the flag holder for all those online who decided she wouldn’t be right for Wonder Woman:
Right now Wonder Woman has the same exact critical rating as 2008’s The Dark Knight and is certified fresh on Rotten Tomatos:
I’m not sure if you can see what Rotten Tomato’s “Critical Consensus” is from the image, so this is what it says:
“Thrilling, earnest, and buoyed by Gal Gadot’s charismatic performance, Wonder Woman succeeds in spectacular fashion.”
There’s been angry fan reaction to comic book casting going all the way back to Michael Keaton in the 1989 Batman, and most of the time that angry fan reaction evaporated as soon as the movie came out. But never before has there been such hate directed at an actress only to have the comic book movie receive the near universal praise that Wonder Woman is receiving.
